Today’s Lesson: Apparently, Sniffing Is Bad Behavior
Dessa here.
I recently learned that some humans think when we’re out walking and I stop to smell something, the appropriate response is…
YANK.
No sniffing. Keep moving.
Interesting. 🤔
So I decided to try this brilliant training method on humans.
Mom walks past a coffee shop.
Mom: “Oooooh… that coffee smells—”
YANK.
NO SNIFFING.
Keep moving, lady.
Then Dad spots a cool old car.
Dad: “Whoa… is that a ’69—”
YANK.
NO LOOKING.
WE’RE WALKING.
Ohhhh… you wanted to stop and check it out?
Too bad.
Apparently we’re punishing perfectly normal behavior today.
See how ridiculous this is getting?
I’m a dog. I sniff.
I’m not being stubborn.
I’m not ignoring you.
I’m not trying to ruin your walk.
I’m being a dog.
If there’s something you want me to learn, teach me what you DO want and reward me when I get it right.
Don’t punish me for doing something that comes naturally.
Besides…
Mom gets to smell the coffee.
Dad gets to admire the cars.
And I get to find out who peed on the hydrangeas.
Everybody has a hobby.
🐾 Love, Dessa
Ohhh… you thought the yank was teaching me something.
Bless your heart. 😘🐾
